Types of Visa You Can Apply For

The official portal India Visa offers the following visa application options:

• Regular / Paper Visa - for all foreign nationals applying through Indian Mission/Post
• e-Visa - for limited categories, processed by Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs
• Visa on Arrival - available only for nationals of Japan, South Korea, and UAE (only UAE nationals who had earlier obtained an e-Visa or regular/paper visa for India), available at selected airports
• Afghan Visa - exclusively for Afghanistan nationals

Important Notice: The Government of India has not authorized any agent or intermediary to charge any fee for facilitation of emergency / express Visa / eVisa. For travel to India, a regular/eVisa along with passport is mandatory.

Note: Foreigners and OCI Card holders can complete and submit the e-Arrival card online within 72 hours before their arrival in India at Bureau of Immigration or India Visa or via the official 'Indian Visa Su-Swagatam' Mobile App. This is for arrival information only, not a visa.

How to Apply for Regular / Paper Visa (Step-by-Step)

The Regular Visa application follows a three-step process:

• Step 1 - Apply Online: Fill and submit the Visa Application Form securely on the portal.
• Step 2 - Submit Documents: Submit your application with required documents at the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) or directly at the Indian Mission.
• Step 3 - Receive Passport & Visa: Collect your passport/visa from the Indian Mission/Visa Application Center or by post.

Online Application Procedure:

• Go to the official website: India Visa
• On the home page, click on "For Regular/Paper Visa by Indian Mission/Post, Apply here."
  
• You will be taken to the Regular Visa page. Click on "Regular/Paper Visa Application" tab at the bottom of the page.
  
• A Visa Application Form popup will appear. Enter the following details and click "Continue":
  • Passport Number
  • Nationality
  • Name as in Passport
  
• Fill in the complete Online Visa Application Form with all required details such as:
  • Personal information
  • Travel details and expected date of arrival
  • Email ID and contact details
  • CAPTCHA verification
• Submit the form, print and sign it, then submit it with supporting documents at the concerned IVAC or Indian Mission on your appointment date.

How to Apply For Visa On Arrival (Only For Nationals of Japan, South Korea & UAE)

Visa on Arrival is available only to nationals of Japan, South Korea, and UAE (only for UAE nationals who had earlier obtained an e-Visa or regular/paper visa for India) at selected airports.

General Notes:

• This facility is not available to any person if he/she or either of his/her parents or grandparents (paternal or maternal) was born in or is a permanent resident of Pakistan. Such persons can visit India only on an appropriate visa obtained from the concerned Indian Mission/Post.
• The Visa on Arrival facility is not available to holders of Diplomatic/Official passports.
• Visa on Arrival shall be non-extendable and non-convertible.
• Japanese, South Korean, and UAE nationals are required to fill an application form (Annexure I). It is advisable to download it, print it, fill it, and present it to the Visa Officer at the visa counter on arrival. The form can also be filled on arrival. The physical form will also be available from airlines on board the flight. Applicants must carry the duly filled VoA Application Form along with a duly filled disembarkation card.

For UAE Nationals:

• Visa on Arrival Scheme is applicable only for UAE nationals who had earlier obtained an e-Visa or regular/paper visa for India.
• UAE nationals coming to India for the first time are advised to apply for an e-Visa or regular/paper visa.
• Pakistan Origin UAE nationals will not be eligible for the Visa on Arrival Scheme.
• All other terms and conditions applicable for the grant of Visa on Arrival to Japanese and South Korean nationals will also apply to UAE nationals.

How to Apply For eVisa By Bureau of Immigration

The e-Visa application follows a four-step process:

• Step 1 - Apply Online: Fill the application form and upload your photo and passport page on the e-Visa portal.
• Step 2 - Pay e-Visa Fee Online: Pay the applicable fee using Credit Card, Debit Card, or Payment Wallet.
• Step 3 - Receive ETA Online: An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) will be sent to your registered e-mail ID.
• Step 4 - Fly to India: Print the ETA and present it at the Immigration Check Post, where the e-Visa will be stamped on your passport.

Advisory: The Government of India makes no provision for charging any emergency fees or additional fees for the grant of any emergency / express e-Visa. Travellers are also advised to go through the instructions available on the website of the Bureau of Immigration at Bureau of Immigration.

How to Apply For Visa For Afghanistan Nationals

Afghanistan nationals can avail the following visa services:

• Business Visa
• Student Visa
• Medical Visa
• Medical Attendant Visa
• Entry Visa
• UN Diplomat Visa

Instructions for Afghanistan Nationals:

• Those travelling to India are advised to go through the instructions available on the website of the Bureau of Immigration at Bureau of Immigration.
• Each online application form is meant for one person only. A separate application must be filed for each applicant.
• Furnish information exactly as asked in the forms, especially the name, passport number, address, and date of birth.
• Applicants are required to verify all application details before submitting the online application. There is an option to save the online application form if it is not to be submitted immediately.
• Once the online application form is submitted, further modifications are not allowed. Applicants must check and validate all details before submitting the form.
• Applicants are requested to keep the Application ID (generated automatically after submission of the online form) for all further communications.

Check Your Visa Application Status

• Visit the Visa Status Enquiry page.
• Enter your Application ID and Passport Number along with the CAPTCHA text.
• Click "Check Status" to view your Regular Visa status, or "Advanced Search for e-Visa only" for e-Visa status.
  
• Note (Regular Visa): Application ID can be seen on your receipt issued by the Indian Mission/Agent where you submitted your application.
• Note (e-Visa): Application ID can be seen in the Acknowledgement Message and also in the printed Application Form. Visa Status Enquiry can also be used to know Payment Status and to Print e-Visa.

Diplomatic / Official Visa

• Issuance of Visa to foreign diplomats/officials assigned in India and their dependent family members: Applications may be submitted to CPV Division, Ministry of External Affairs through the Online Portal at by selecting "Yes" for the query "Are you a foreign national holding Diplomatic or Official or Service Passport or Dependent of Foreign Diplomat/Official?".
• Services rendered through this portal:
  • New Visa Issuance (only as per bilateral agreements or for newborns)
  • Visa Extension
  • Visa Conversion
  • Visa Transfer (for change of passport)
• Physical forms are not accepted and visa stickers are not utilized; all communications are conducted via email or SMS.
• Applicants are advised to apply at least 3 weeks prior to expiry of their visa or visa free period.
